The aim of the 22nd ICTCT workshop is to provide a forum for discussing “stubborn” road safety issues. These are issues that, whilst effort has been invested in research and the implementation of solutions, still remain problematic. One obvious example is inappropriate speed choice, but other issues such as young drivers, distraction and impairment due to drugs, alcohol and the use of in-vehicle devices are also pertinent. Wider issues such as the safety of vulnerable road users, the ageing society and the transfer of car trips to other modes are also worthy of discussion with a view to developing strategies to improve road safety. The presentations may deal with these topics rather freely based on various competences enabling the typical ICTCT multidisciplinary approach. As usually, ample time for discussion will be given to ensure a comprehensive view on the different topics.
Please submit abstracts that fit into the program outlined above. Priority will be given to papers that focus specifically on one of the stubborn topic areas and that provide evidence of solution testing. The related full papers will, as usual, be presented in the frame of an open and friendly atmosphere, providing professional feedback by colleagues of different disciplines who look at problems from different perspectives. All this supports creative processes and provides both factual and motivational impulses. The papers will be reviewed and selected for presentation by the ICTCT scientific committee. The assessment will be based upon different criteria such as clear connection to the topic, scientific quality of the paper, innovation, and "ICTCT-specific" relevance. Young researchers will get priority and newcomers are welcome.
Note that the ICTCT General Assembly is held in Leeds on Saturday, October 24th, 2009. All ICTCT members and representatives from ICTCT member organisations are invited to attend the General Assembly.
The workshop will be organised in close co-operation with the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds.
